Distance learning has had both highlights and drawbacks. In some senses, it builds responsibility in students seeing as we are on our own for the most part and we have to be checking for due dates and updates rather than having our professors tell them to us. I will also admit - it's pretty nice to be able to go to class in pajamas! The drawbacks of distance learning are the fact that it is easy to get distracted when you are on your computer all day. Sometimes it can be hard to focus, and I've often heard that this decreases students' motivation. When I am a teacher, if I have to use distance learning, I can help improve the experience by checking up on my students weekly in order to get a feel for where they are at mentally so that they stay on track with assignments.

OER are learning and research materials that are available to the public. This is important because it allows education to be accessible to all. Additionally, it allows one to build a class without having to start from scratch. Through open courseware and textbooks, it provides students and faculty to better understand their work. https://guides.library.illinois.edu/OERGuide/BlogsandSocialMedia

The Illinois University Library has an article about OER use in social media and how to use it effectively to create original content. I enjoyed working on the powerpoints because as a future educator, powerpoint is definitely something I will be utilizing. I liked playing around with linking slides together as well as adding graphics to slides. It was cool to use all the different transition effects. I think powerpoint is a great tool in general not only for classrooms but also for business meetings and things of that nature. It conveys information in a very clean-cut and understandable way. I also really like that powerpoint can be used to create learning games such as jeopardy. The only think I didn't like was I found it a tiny bit confusing when it came to all the buttons linking slides, but this issue can be fixed next time because I now understand it.
