Hi! My name is Amelia and I am a junior at FSU majoring in psychology and minoring in education. I love art and being creative and I hope to be able to tie it into my career in the future, whether that be through art therapy or just something in the education field. I was born in Massachusetts but now live in Ft. Lauderdale and am staying home for the semester due to Covid. Some of my interests include art, music, and reading!

Being someone part of Gen Z, I have ample experience with technology in all areas of life, including the classroom. I was in first grade when SmartBoards worked their way into my school. This was my first real experience using technology in each and every classroom I attended. We were also required to go to the computer lab once a week, but this was mainly so we could learn how to type. In 6th grade we were all required to have a computer with us daily, so from a young age I was very good with laptops. Now, 9 years later, here I am still using my computer as an education tool.

There are a few resources I use as part of my personal learning network. When I was on campus at FSU, I stopped by the career center frequently and met with counselors who I can still contact whenever I need help or have a question. A lot of my friends are majoring in the same field as me, so I take advantage of that and discuss ideas and resources with them when it comes to graduating and what we want to do. Additionally, I watch TedTalks on Youtube and always find great videos that broaden my horizons in terms of ideas and networking.

    Hi Amelia! I also love art and reading, although actually making art is not one of my strong suits. I'm not sure where in Massachusetts you were born, but I absolutely love Boston! It's one of my favorite cities ever, and I actually almost went to school there before coming to FSU. I also love using YouTube and Ted Talks for information. It's awesome how you can literally find anything on YouTube, and I've definitely found quite a few awesome and inspirational Ted Talks out there as well. I hope you're managing the pandemic well at home, I know I've struggled being away from campus a bit, but hopefully things will get closer to normal soon!

    Hey Amelia! I'm also a psych major, and I plan on working with kids in the future. It's really cool that you're considering art therapy as a career choice. That combination of disciplines is so fascinating to think about. I haven't been to Fort Lauderdale in some time, but I remember it being a beautiful city. It's interesting to hear about how much your schools implemented technology, since late high school was really my first experience using it this much. TedTalks are such a great resource for learning about new developments and studies in psychology.

I enjoyed working on the Web Design assignment. It was really neat to be able to add my own touches and watch it all come together in the end as one cohesive website. What I liked most about it (and wasn't aware of previously) was that web design has a lot of room for individual creativity. Copyright is the right given to an author, creator, or originator to publish their material. Fair Use are the guidelines put in place to help enable people to use those copyrighted materials for academic purposes. As a teacher, it is important to know that students and teachers may display copyrighted work but may not reproduce or distribute it.  With the rising era of technology, there are many technology implementation issues. One of which is academic dishonesty. Internet access that is readily available poses a problem for cheating and plagiarism. To combat this, teachers should use the website TurnItIn.com, which enables educators to see whether or not something was plagiarized. Another issue technology presents is the issue of decreased productivity. Students may easily get distracted and want to play games on whatever device they are using. One solution for this that was implemented in my middle school was setting up gaming blockers, in which students were unable to access games.
